The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Bomdila is putting sincere effort in prevention of epidemic among the animal and poultry birds and enhancing the state revenue in the district. In West Kameng district, where large number of household depends on bequest animal rearing, the help rendered by the department is not only indispensable but also help in improvement in the economical condition of the people. During the year 2002-2003, many prophylactive measures were taken to prevent the fatal diseases of livestock and poultry birds. Due to the sincere effort by the department no epidemic occurred in the district. Through department source, it has been informed that in the District Diagnostic laboratory, Bomdila, more then one thousand and two hundred test were carried out in the year, which include faecal sample test, post mortem, skin scrapping and milk sample test. In same year, different veterinary centers in the district have treated 26,703 cases in addition to 2,113 castrations. Nineteen thousand poultry and domesticate livestock were vaccinated. Dr. N.D.Minto, District AH & Veterinary Officer, Bomdila informed that the department has seven veterinary dispensaries, seventeen aid centers, fifteen cattle up gradation centers, three sheep and wool extension centers, two mobile dispensary units, one disease diagnostic laboratory, one cattle breeding farm and one district poultry farm in the district. Giving details of the Cattle breeding farm, Warjung, 13 km from Bomdila, Dr. Minto informed that there are thirty-six cattle heads, which includes six wet cows, ten dry cows, nine Heifer, one breeding bull and three young bulls. He added that the farm needs the replacement of milch cows as the original stocks have become less productive, which directly affect milk production. The DVO also informed that in the last financial year, the milk production has gone up to 25,749.50 litres, resulted in addition of Rs. 3,47,347.00 to the state revenue. In addition, the farm produced 943 quintal of green fodder in order to feed the cattle heads of the dairy farm. In the last financial year 2002-2003, in the District Poultry Centre, Bomdila, 1315 broiler birds were reared of which 1250 were sold to the consumers of Bomdila Township adding a sum of Rs. 1,46,084.00 to the state revenue.
