Naharlagun :The Mopin Festival of Galo Community was celebrated here at
Rijo ground and Dumporijo from 5th to 7th April'2005 with traditional fervor and
gaiety. The local MLA Sri Daklo Nidak graced the occasion as the chief guest
while Sri S.K. Raina, chief Engineer NHPC as the guest of honour. Speaking on
the occasion Sri Nidak said that the festival of the different tribes of Abotani
were of agricultural and rituals in nature & character and were very common
to all the tribes .He urged the people of all the tribes to celebrate own
festival or the others festival together so as to promote unity, cooperation,
peace and communal harmony. The chief Engineer, Sri S.K.Raina termed the Galo as
one of the progressive and competitive tribe in Arunachal Pradesh and urged them
to continue to preserve and promote their rich cultural heritage. Earlier Sri
Goken Basar Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the festival committee conveyed
his best wishes and Mopin greetings to one all.
The other highlights of the celebration were-Colony wise cultural competitions-
dances and songs with traditional costumes, Methun sacrifice, Popir Poggnam,
Prize distribution and Riga gama at the residence of Sri Tanyum Haji, the Pingi
Niri. The special invitee Popir Ponu troupe from Bam village of West Siang
district demonstrated excellent traditional and modern dances.
