On the eve of World Population Day held on 10th July 2004 in the conference hall of the Directorate of Information Public Relation and Printing Naharlagun a meeting was organized to sensitize the functionaries and creating awareness among the public about the importance of Registration of Births. Shri Joram Begi, Director of Higher & Technical Education, Arunachal Pradesh presided over the meeting. Senior Officers of Government Department, Faculty members, NGOs, Media Persons attended the meeting. Shri N. K. Laskar, Co-ordinator, N. E. State narrated the importance of Registration of Births. He told that the Registration of Births is one of the first right of the child which is also compulsory under the RBD Act 1969. In Arunachal Pradesh Registration of Births & Deaths Rule 2001 is in force .
Laskar informed that several steps have been taken by the Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths of Arunachal Pradesh and Director of Census Operations, Arunachal Pradesh for improvement of the system. He further told that the National Population Policy 2000 has set a target for achieving cent percent registration by 2010. On the eve of World Population Day the date of birth of the children to the school records to be verify with the birth certificate issued by the Registration authority and ensure that correct date of birth is reported in the school record to avoid future complication that may faced by children for obtaining Pass Port, Visa and other required papers. The school authority have been requested to take necessary action accordingly.
Laskar appealed to all the departments, NGOs, Public Leaders and Media Persons to render all possible help for awareness among the people to achieve the goal.
