Naharlagun - Feb 16: Tawang District witnessing heavy Snowfall since last month onwards which has affected normal life badly. The heaviest Snowfall ever were recorded on 20th January and 16th February, which brought down temperature to minus degree causing intolerable cold wave through out the township and neighbouring areas. Sela Pass, the only lifeline of Tawang District was totally snowcapped for a long time and time to time road blockage caused heavy losses to business establishment and misery to the commuters/travellers. Market ran out of stock, which has lead to the scarcity of essential items in the district. As reported earlier on 26th and 27th of January'05 due to extreme heavy many vehicle got stranded at Sela, which led to some deaths and damage of chickens and other foodstuffs causing heavy losses to businessman. Since 2nd week of February through out Losar festival heavy Snowfall again started heavily, paralyzing normal life and disruption of road communication with little breaks. All participants/Govt. officials of Exhibition and Cultural Troup of Tawang while proceeding to Itanagar to attend Statehood Day'05 Celebration got trapped since 16th Feb. Meanwhile DIPRO Tawang who was stranded at Jung reports that Sella Pass is covered by 7feet snow.
