Naharlagun - The East Kameng district administration has constituted a
district level disaster management committee to take up necessary
precautionary measures for impending earthquake in the near future as
predicted by the scientists. The disaster management committee will be
headed by the Deputy Commissioner as Chairman and the Superintendent of
police, all Executive Engineers of works Departments, District Planning
Officer, District Information and Public Relations Officer, District
Supply Officer, Commander BRTF/GREF and Deputy Director of school
Education as its members. The Deputy Commissioner, Shri Y.D Thongchi while presiding
over the
meeting briefed the officers about the impending threats of the natural
calamities and informed the after effects of the last earthquakes in the
state. Shri Thongchi who is attending the State level Disaster
Management committee meeting at the state capital asked all the District
Heads of Department to take necessary precautionary measures and give
the list of requirement and inventory of equipments and machines to the
committee for use in such natural calamities. The first disaster management committee meeting of the
district will be in the last part of January in which a detailed discussion will
be held and specific responsibility will be fixed on each member, the DC
said and informed that various sub committees on disaster management
would also be formed in the Circle and village level as well. Earlier at another meeting the programme for the celebration of the
coming Republic Day at Seppa was chalked out under the chairmanship of
the deputy commissioner Shri Y.D Thongchi.
