                                        TUKI GRACES THE 21ST SHAPAWNG YAWNG MANAUPOI

Naharlagun Feb 17 - The 21st Shapawng Yawng Manau poi festival of the Singpho community was celebrated at Bordumsa on February 14 last with full gaiety and religious fervour. The festival was marked by colourful traditional dances, folk songs, and display of Gongs. The Minister for PWD and Urban Development, Sri Nabum Tuki graced the occasion as the chief guest which was also attended by other dignitaries including Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Research, Shri Chowna Mein, Minister for Civil Supplies, Health and Family welfare, Shri CC Singpho, MLA Shri Chow Pintika Namchoom, ADC Miao, S.P Changlang SDO Bordumsa and other government officers and officials, reports DIPRO Changlang. A public memorandum was submitted to the ministers which urged for the recognitions of Bordumsa town as an urban area, improvement of Digboi - Bordumsa road, construction of village link roads, renovation of the school buildings and early establishment of the science laboratory at Government Higher Secondary school Bordumsa. Speaking on the occasion Sri Nabum Tuki urged the people to preserve and promote their traditional culture. He also advocated for documentation of the traditions and culture of the community and said that Arunachal Pradesh being a state inhabited by numerous tribes and sub tribes is a land of festivals, so the state has an immense potential for tourism. Later he donated a sum of Rs 25000/- to the festival organizing committee. The Education Minister, Sri Chowna Mein announced to the public amidst a huge public applause that he has already approved Singpho Language as the third language of the state and also suggested that a joint festival of Tangsas, Singpho, and Khamti should be organized to promote cultural affinity. The Minister for Civil Supplies, Health and Family welfare, Sri C.C Singpho while greeting the people on the occasion said that the festival could be organized as an international festival because Singpho community also resides abroad in countries like Myanmar and Thailand. He praised the activities of the Singpho development society and said that it could be the main platform for serving the Singpho community. He further urged the youths and the public to discourage opium and drug addiction.
