Naharlagun, Feb17 - The state's women commission will be able to kindle some hopes of upswing in the performance level of the women folk to make a steady foray in the male bastion of carrier opportunities, said Mrs. Jarjum Ete, Chairperson of State's Women Commission while taking up a meeting with the Heads of Department, Public Leaders, Panchayat Bodies and women organization at Along on February 15 last, reports DIPRO Along. Terming her official visit as an initial exercise to reach out to women folk, she gave the message of fresh movement for women with a greater sense of commitment to wipe off unfair practices connected with women and farther the fundamental rights to uphold dignity and status of women She said that the commission was enacted in 2003, constituted on 7th January 2005 and came into force on 17th January 2005. The commission can call on district administration and has quasi-judiciary strength, especially in cases involving govt. officials, she said. Few more members are contemplated to be included as members after amendment depending on the will of the government and resources available with the commission. The District Level Sexual Harassment Cell and District Women Grievances Cell under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner will be constituted soon, she said adding that the job opportunities and reservations under various departments should also be followed in letter and spirit. The Tribal society should be as such that it does not require any policy, she said The root for such upbringing will rest solely on how we nurture and nourish our offspring's. The traditional democratic system, laws and keba should also give justices and protect welfare of the women. She reiterated that lot more women of substance and potential are yet to come out of the district despite very high female literacy rate here. The other members of commission Smti Gumri Ringu, Smti Jaya Jorang and Smti Lomter Riba spoke in details and appealed the women folk to work hard to restore their dignity and status. Sharing his views with the Commission Bodies, Shri V. Abrahum, D.C. Along said that Govt. had to go through various methods to up lift the cause of women and the commission gives them a launching pad towards their progress and security. It will be the constant endeavour of the district administration to ensure their security and any offence below the dignity of women will be dealt with stringent laws, he added. Participating in the discussion Shri M. S. Chohan, SP, Along said that police will be extra sensitive to growing offences against the women. The DRO, Along Shri T. Naksang said that a change in our attitude, integrated and holistic approach with cooperation of entire tribal society will make it more functional. Dr. Emi Rumi, DMO, Along stressed on the need to highlight problems of electricity, telecom facility and other infrastructures development in the oldest district of Arunachal through women organization. Speaking on behalf of the public, Shri Tumpak Ete, Ex- MLA said that tribal culture & philosophy are forgotten due to infiltration of modern ideologies that have visited minds of present generation and aggravated the situation and urged the commission to play a role in cultural setting, the report added.
