NAHARLAGUN, June 1- The second Disaster Risk Management Programme (DRMP)
in Dibang Valley District was held at Angoli village in on May 30 last,
reports DIPRO Anini.Angoli village which is located 2 Km away from the district headquarter
is selected under the Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Project
after Angrim valley where the first DRMP was held on May 19 last. These
two villages are considered as highly disaster risk area in the district.
Shri M. Tai, Circle Officer representing the Deputy Commissioner in the
Programme in his speech said that the Panchayat leaders and the Gaon
Burahs of the village should take initiative and come forward in case of
disaster. They should form self-help groups to help themselves by
themselves instead of depending everything on the government as the govt.
can not reach everywhere as it is handicapped by poor infrastructure and
limited man power. Therefore, formation of self-help groups is the best
solution as they can help themselves before the govt. could reach them in
case of major disaster, he added.
The District Information and Public Relations Officer, A. Saring in his
speech said that as the village is very fire prone and as every year fire
accident occur in the village that broke out due to burning of the forest
by one or other reason, he exhorted the villagers to clean the premises of
their houses and plant trees around their surroundings which will not only
beautify the village but will also protect their houses from fire in case of fire broke out in the forest.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers, T. Ngurup of Anini and N.
Tashi of Khonsa described in details the Dos and Don’ts in case of
disasters like earthquake, fire, etc. In consultation with the villagers
they also formed various Committees in the village, which will play a
vital role in case of any disaster. They further draw sketch map of the
village and prepared mitigation plan for the village. The villagers were
also distributed Rs 50/- each as honorarium for attending the training
