SUCCESS STORY ( BY Jambey Tsering, DIPRO, Changlang)

Opportunities always roam by your side, but to grab that, one should be alert enough and should be equipped with the weapon "HARD LABOUR".

The fishery department Changlang now boast of their beneficiaries in a very nutshell, those who actually adopted the pisciculture as a main
source of their income are earning a very handsome benefit.

One such beneficiary is Shri Puniram Gogoi of Innao village, under Diyun circle of Changlang district who has done an exemplary job in
pisciculture Starting his fish farm in the year 1987-88 with a meager water area of 0.06 Ha. Puniram, with his hard work and support from the
Fisheries deptt. has, till date, developed a total area of 3.5 Ha.

Presently he is earning about Rs. 1.50 to 2.00 lakh yearly. Where in 0.50 to 0.60 lakh is utilized for recurring expenses like maintenance of
farm, inputs, procurement of seedlings and rest amount remains as net profit.

Along with the table of fish to the tune of 25-30qts per year, he also produces about 05 lakhs of fish seeds, which he also sells.

He constructed his house in the center of the farm, which facilitates him for easy monitoring of the farm. By his earnings, he is educating
his son, who is in a college at New-Delhi.

The abbreviation that DFDO, Longri has innovated, truly boosts up the self-confidence of local people to take up pisciculture for income
generation. According to him fish provides food, income, it is sport and for some, it is a hobby.

Changlang district has hilly terrain of 60% and rest foothill or plain lands, which facilitates the culture of fishes in wide range and varieties.
The department has been undertaking various beneficial schemes, which are as follows:
(a.) Rural Aqua Culture: 10 beneficiaries covering 1.00 Hac. with supply of fish seeds to the farmers were undertaken in this scheme.
(b.) Fish farmer development agencies: - During the current financial year 2.0 Hac. of water area has been developed by covering 20 Nos. of
beneficiaries.
(c.) Integrated fish farming (paddy-cum-fish culture) was successfully implemented. The department also acts as a mediator in rendering marketing facilities to the beneficiaries.

With the milestone laid by Shri Puniram Gogoi, it is sure to get the momentum required in the field of self-employment. It is never too late
for the people who really want to do something, that make an eye opener for others. While the unemployment problem is surrounding our world, it is indeed obligatory for us to take up such self-employment schemes, which would not only make one stand on his feet but also would lead to the fiscal growth of the area.
