Naharlagun:- The state Governor Sri S.K. Singh accompanied by Hage Kojeen, Secretary to the Governor paid a 3-day official visit to Tirap district w.e.f 6th May to 8th May'2005, reports DIPRO Khonsa. On May 5 last, the Governor visited Lapnan village about 2 km from Khonsa where he was accorded a traditional reception by the villagers. He also visited the traditional institution-Morong and closely studied the activities of the Morong. He appealed to the villagers to preserve their age-old traditional systems for posterity. Later the Governor while interacting with the heads of the departments in the Circuit House asked the officers to work selflessly and with innovative ideas to see that the benefits of the government schemes reach the poorest of the poor. He specifically suggested to the DHO to go for large-scale vanilla and coco plantation as the soil and climatic condition in the district was ideal. He lamented that the district officers were not working to their potentials and asked them to have a crystal ball-viewing of their performances and MLAs T. Aboh, W.Lowangdong and K. Lowang who were also present took active part in the discussion that ensued. Earlier the Governor had a separate meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Commandant 23 AR, Commandant, 13 ITBPF and other security agencies operating in the district and reviewed the security scenario in the whole of Tirap district.
On May 7 last, the Governor had a
hectic programme through out the day. He visited the Emporium, the district
Museum and the district Hospital. In the same day he met the Chiefs and GBs in
the Circuit House and freely interacted with them. The chiefs and GBs apprised
the Governor regarding the pressing problems faced by them which included
perpetual shortage of doctors and medicines in the health centers and hospitals
and shortage of teachers in schools. They also expressed concern over paucity of
funds in the departments and frequent absence of officers in their offices
during working hours. On the occasion the chiefs and GBs submitted a memorandum
to the Governor. Sri S.K. Singh while responding to the chiefs and GBs asked
them to maintain peace, as peace was
pre-requisite for development. The Governor exhorted the Minister and the MLAs
in the district to work with utmost sincerity, honesty and with a sense of
purpose to mitigate the problems of the people. He emphatically said that a lot
was required to be done vis-à-vis all round development of the district and in
improving the living standard of the people.
N. Tinkhatra, Minister Environment and Forest, MLAs T. Aboh, W. Lowangdong and K. Lowang who also shared their views, appealed to the Governor to sanction more funds and create employment opportunities for the youth as the district was backward in all respects compared to other districts of the state. Later they submitted a joint memorandum to the Governor on behalf of the people. The demands in the memorandum included establishment of a Sainik school in the district, construction of border roads from Laju to Khimyong and Wakka to Pongchau and conversion of district hospital to general hospital and Khonsa-Naharkatia road to National highway.
Later on the same day the Governor
visited the craft center and Ramakrishana Sarada Mission School wherein he met
the Matajies and the students. An attractive cultural programme was staged by
the students in his honour. In the evening the Governor visited the Don Bosco
Youth Center(DBYC), Khonsa and soon after attended a cultural function at
Rangsoam Hall.
On 8th May, the Governor accompanied by the Secretary visited Ramakrishna
Mission School at Narottam Nagar about 8 km from Deomali. He was accorded a warm
reception there by the students and staff. Later he also met the Monastic
members, teachers and students. The Governor left for Changlang district on the
same day, the report added.
