Tezu: In keeping with changing educational scenario , higher educational institutions in the state must also adopt to times and endevour to compete with the best in the country, said Chowna Mein, Education Minister on Wednesday while inaugurating 16th Annual college day celebration of Indira Gandhi Government college, Tezu. Besides dignitaries including DC P.S. Lokhande, senior public leaders and district officer, Joram Begi, Director of Higher Education and Technical Studies and K. Kri, MLA, attended the inaugural function at college ground.
The Minister appreciated grievances of the 3rd oldest college of the state, as apprised in the function by Principal, D. Hazarika, and secretary of students union Praveen Tayeng, and assured them of his continued support to its all-round development. In reply to a proposal by K.Kri, MLA, requesting the minister to initiate a step for contribution of Rs. five lakhs by each MLA of Lohit , Anjaw and Upper and Lower Dibang Velley District from their respective MLALADF for infrastructural development of the college, Mein said he welcomed the idea and assured his support if other MLAs approved of it. He also advised Principal to prepare suitable schemes for infrastructural development for submission to DONER Ministry, as the state government lacked adequate fund to meet its requirement. Earlier, the Minister garlanded the statue of late Mrs. Indira Gandhi in the College premises and visited the campus.
Shri K. Kri, MLA, participating as guest of Honour, appreciated the College’s long tradition of discipline and academic excellence . He requested the Minister to take steps to introduce Commerce section in Tezu Higher Secondary School and appealed all MLA s of feeder districts covering Upper Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Anjaw to contribute Rs. Five lakhs annually from their local area dev fund for two years for the College. He also awarded eight best meritorious students of the college on the occasion.
Shri Joram Begi, Director of Higher Education and Technical studies who attended as a special invitee, lauded the College for its encouraging academic performance and discipline among students. While appealing to all concerned to extended support for all-round development of the College, Begi also advised the College authorities to explore alternative means of managing resources.
Welcoming the Minister and guest earlier, D. Hazarika , Principal, apprised them of major needs of the College including hostels for boys and girls, auditorium hall, security fencing around its 200 are big campus. he also informed that two new centres, Career Counseling centre and Disaster Management centre have been introduced in the college from this year for Welfare of student community.
