Naharlagun September, 22 - The crowd- pulling sports extravaganza, Jompu Kegum Memorial Football tournament got off to a flying start at Kamba after it was declared open by the West Siang Deputy Commissioner and Chief Guest of the tournament  Tope Bam amid cheer and applause on September 20 last. Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Shri Bam emphasized on the need to gear up games and sports activities as they play a uniting factor among different communities through social interaction and participation. Games and Sports are co-related with development as all advanced countries in the world have excelled in Games and Sports arena. He reiterated that not much of sports activities have been taking place in North East regions barring states like Assam and Manipur to expose hidden  talents in this parts of the world. He encouraged the organizers and players to do the best at their level by inculcating true sportsmanship spirit. He appealed all participating teams to abide by the rules and regulations that govern the tournament so that no law and order problem crop up during the tournament for its logical conclusion. He lauded the gesture of the sponsored and efforts of the organizing committee for organizing such an important sports event He asked EAC and OC Kamba to monitor law and order aspects through out the tournament. The Extra Assistant Commissioner, Kamba graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.          
Speaking on the occasion Er.Gumge Kato, Chief Engineer PWD said that the sponsorship carries the twin message of promoting values in Games and Sports and love and respect towards the parents. Earlier, Er. Karge Kamki, overall In charge of the tournament welcomed the gathering. In the opening encounter of the tournament, Donyi Polo College, Kamki overcame Aalo  United by 2-1 through a golden goal after both teams were locked 1-1 in the scheduled time of play. The  final of the tournament will played on the day of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October next. Altogether sixteen teams are in the fray to battle out for the most coveted trophy sponsored by Er. Gumge Kato, Chief Engineer PWD in memory of his parent Jompu-Kegum and organized by the Hirik- Hiru Trophy organizing committee.
