Naharlagun April 26 :- Come 1st June, 2005, the District of East Kameng will complete 25 years of its existence. It was on this same day, some twenty five years ago, to be precise, on June 1, 1980, the District of East Kameng was born by bifurcating the erst-while Kameng District. The Seppa Sub-Division of the then undivided Kameng District was upgraded to a full-fledged district with Seppa as district headquarters. The then Additional Deputy Commissioner of Seppa Sub-Division Shri. V.K. Bhalla, IAS, was promoted as the new Deputy Commissioner of the new District of East Kameng on 1st June, 1980. , reports DC Seppa.

To celebrate the occasion of completion of 25 years of the District, the East Kameng District Administration has decided to celebrate the year 2005 as the Silver Jubilee year. Formal function is slated to begin from 1st June, 2005 and continue up to 31st May, 2006. In this connection, a meeting of all public leaders and officers was held in the Conference Hall at Seppa on 26th April, 2005.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Shri Bidol Tayeng requested all present in the meeting to join hand in the successful celebration of the silver jubilee function. Says Shri Bidol Tayeng "It is the occasion that we stand at the milestone of 25 years and look back what we have achieved." "Also, it is an occasion for us to look forward what we should achieve in coming years and commit ourselves to achieve in next 15 years what we have achieved in last 25 years", he added.

It was decided that through out the year of Silver Jubilee, different programmes would be organized. A Souvenir carrying articles from the administrators, who had once served in the District, would be brought out, the DC informed.

A symposium on important issues confronting the district of East Kameng would also be organized besides games and sports tournaments in different disciplines such as Football, Volleyball, Cricket, and Badminton etc. during the period. Rafting, Angling, Hiking, cultural events etc. would also spice the celebration. To make most of the occasion, the meeting has mooted an idea to felicitate people from all walks of life who have contributed in different manners to the district
in its growth and development over last two and half decades. A Siver Jubilee Celebration Committee under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, East Kameng would be constituted soon to give final shape to the celebration itinerary the reports added.
